Landscape paintings are treasured for reinterpreting the beauty of the natural world through the eyes of an artist. Whether your goal is to paint Plein Air from life, paint light like the Impressionists, or create detailed landscapes in your studio, this workshop will teach you the tools you need. All skill levels are welcome.
In this 6 hour workshop, we will:
- *Discuss various approaches including Plein Air, Tonalism, Impressionism, and Realism
- *Study Composition and Design in order to create dynamic, interesting scenes.
- *Practice techniques for painting trees, water, clouds, mountains, etc.
- *Paint believable low detail figures and buildings
- *Learn alternative paint application methods using the Palette Knife, Fan Brush, and Blending Brush
- *Complete multiple quick studies
- *Create a Painting utilizing the methods, techniques, and ideas covered in the workshop

Mediums: Oil/Acrylic/Gouache/Watercolor
SUPPLY LIST:
Pigments (or preferred substitutes) – White, Cad/Primary Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Cad/Primary Red, Alizarin Crimson, Cerulean/Sky Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Ivory Black, *Veridian (if you have it)
Brushes – Med Flat, Small Round, Fan Brush, Soft Blending/Mop Brush, Palette Knife
Surfaces – 4 small scratch canvases or canvas papers to paint quick studies, 1 small – medium canvas for our final piece
Sketchbook/Scratch paper, 2B or 4B graphite pencil, eraser
(Don’t worry too much about materials; bring what you have and I’ll have some to borrow if needed)
