Title: Paint with Confidence and Clarity
Instructor: Cory Wright – 2025 Plein Air Fairhope BEST OF SHOW
Dates: Oct 31 and Nov 1, 2026
Price: $550 ($500 for ESAC members*)
Please bring 6 canvas or panels ranging from 6×8, 8×10, 9×12, 11×14, whatever sizes you prefer. Cory will be painting in oils, but students are welcome to use whatever medium they like, the principles are generally the same regardless.
Cory typically likes to use a split primary palette (a warm & cool yellow, red, and blue + white) with a few extras thrown in. She strongly suggests using professional or artist quality paints as students get more value for their money when the pigment content is higher. There are lots of excellent brands to choose from, Cory uses mostly M. Graham.
This is Cory’s chosen selection of colors:
Titanium White
Cadmium Yellow Light
Cadmium Yellow Medium
Yellow Ochre
Cerulean Blue
Ultramarine Blue
Cadmium Red
Alizarin Crimson
Red Iron Oxide
Solvent (Cory prefers low odor medium such as Gamsol) and she’ll often use a medium such as Gamblin’s Solvent Free Fluid or Solvent Free Gel to speed up the drying process and improve the consistency.
Paper towels (Viva is her favorite brand)
Brushes – She uses a collection assorted flat/square/round. Rosemary & Co has a great Plein Air set.
Sketchbook & pen for notes & thumbnails
Hat, sunscreen, water (and she likes to use an attachable umbrella)

Cory Wright
Instructor
Cory Wright earned her BFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1998, following a year-long study abroad in Rome, Italy. Since then, in addition to being an art instructor & studio painter, she had an accomplished career as a muralist, specializing in the tromp l’oeil technique, for over 25 years. In 2011 Wright discovered her passion for painting en plein air with oils during a 10 day workshop in Italy. She soon began participating and winning awards at various Paint Out events throughout the state of Florida, where she has resided since 2004. Cory paints full-time and her works are now held in numerous national & international private collections. These days she can most often be found outdoors at her easel, along the beaches of Anna Maria Island where she lives, in her native East Tennessee, at various plein air festivals, or in Italy, capturing the ever-changing effects of light & shadows, and creating larger studio paintings from her plein air works.
