Volunteer Newsletter

The Show Must Go On

The Eastern Shore Art Center is blessed with a dedicated group of volunteers who meet every other month to collect art work to be displayed in the member’s sales gallery. Our current group of volunteers have been working together for many years. The art work is submitted by ESAC member artists with the number of submissions fluctuating -depending on how much work gets done by our artist members. Only artist level members are invited to participate. The volunteers check that the artwork stays within the rules and that the paperwork is correctly done. The “Members’ Show” submissions are collected at the end of October. This show is open to all members regardless of membership level so they usually collect a lot of work.

Additionally, there is also the juried show in the spring. This show is more involved and requires many volunteers who collect entry fees, check memberships and assure the artwork meets the guidelines. Their main mission is to make our artists feel welcome. They are the backbone of our organization. They especially enjoy meeting new artists. Each of the collection days are like a social event where artists often stay to visit with the volunteers and one another. Pictured above are Don Bryant, Faith Kaiser, Karen Roloson and Mary Streu.

November First Friday Art Walk

First Friday Art Walk is a favorite event for Fairhopers and Fairhope visitors as well. The Eastern Shore Art Center is blessed to have a long list of highly capable volunteers who happily staff the front desk and the gift shop during the First Friday Art Walks. Margaret Neely and Holly Parks do a masterful job of organizing the calendar for these volunteers. ESAC was filled to overflowing with guests for the November First Friday Art Walk. Guests were eager to view the member show along with the show from the Plein Air artists. There were so many wonderful entries in the member and Plein Air Shows.

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

The ESAC Outdoor Art Show held in conjunction with the Fairhope Arts and Crafts Festival will take place March 17-19, 2023. Volunteers will be needed for the front desk and gift shop for all three days of the festival. We will also need help with hospitality for the artists and decorations for the art center plus a group to help with the Friday artist reception as well as set-up and clean- up for all events in the art center.
