A Big Salute!!
You’ve heard it said that retired military officers make wonderful non-profit volunteers. Our own Jim Waters, a retired Navy Commander is a fine example. Jim was born in Louisiana but graduated from Fairhope High School and the University of South Alabama. After his Naval service and a stint as an educator in Pennsylvania, Jim and his wife Kathleen Fitch returned to Fairhope in 2019.
Jim’s mother Christine Box Waters and his grandmother Elizabeth Box were both Fairhope artists who were associated with ESAC. Following in their footsteps, Jim is now trying his hand at watercolors, acrylics and clay sculpture. Frequent visitors to ESAC will find Jim’s welcoming smile at the front desk. He and his wife Kathleen are also a mainstay of our First Friday Art Walk volunteers.
Jim is always a willing volunteer for the set up and clean up of major events. A big salute to Jim for his service to our county and to the Eastern Shore Art Center.

Volunteer Opportunities
The summer months have been a busy /me for the ESAC volunteers with First Friday Art Walks, Member Shows, Art Squared, Art Bash and special exhibits in all galleries.
Before we know it plans will be underway for the 2024 Outdoor Art Show.
We will highlight more of our front desk and gift shop volunteers in next month’s newsletter.
Pictured above is Kayla Dean with volunteers Meg McGovern and Laura Kramer. Kayla is now coordinating volunteers for First Friday Art Walks and special events. She has implemented a wonderful payment system for the ESAC Gift Shop plus classes and memberships. Thanks for the great job Kayla!!
