The mass production of goods brought about by Industrial Revolution flooded the world’s markets with cheap and often poorly made and visually unappealing merchandise.  The evolution of an industrial aesthetic, along with better function and quality of production, has affected the objects of our daily lives and has had a significant impact on all of the visual arts.  The ongoing collection and display of aesthetically distinguished objects by the Museum of Modern Art (New York) testifies to the fact that we no longer feel that “art” encompasses creations which are devoid of function and exist solely for the purposes of visual and intellectual stimulation.  In effect, art has been liberated from museums and can now be a part of our world.
