Join professional artist Cat Pope for an in-depth journey into expressive realism.
A fusion of alla prima and alternative layering techniques will be the heartbeat of this course, as students develop and refine their own visual language through class exercises and experiments with a variety of tools. Daily instructor demonstration will help students explore compelling mark-making and its importance in creating imagery with intentional brushwork and styling. This process-driven workshop will emphasize expressions through color temperature and “painting loose,” signature elements in Cat’s painting style.
(Designed for the intermediate to advanced oil painter – a working knowledge of color mixing is required.)
Cat Pope (b. 1989) is an artist madly in love with color relationships, dramatic energy, and confident brushwork. Her childhood in Clearwater, Florida instilled in her a love for the natural landscape and the unique sense of light found along the Gulf Coast.
Cat’s work in oil depicts the coastal South using post-impressionist and contemporary realist techniques. Layers of color, bold shapes, and manipulation of surface texture illustrate a fascination with the nature of the medium itself and its rapturous capacity for memory.
Cat currently lives and works from her studio in Mobile, Alabama. When not in the midst of creating, Cat enjoys teaching workshops and encouraging others to chase after inspiration in all of their creative pursuits. Her works have been collected throughout the United States.
