Class Description: In this class we will learn basic crochet stitches and how to combine them to make simple pattern stitches. After mastering the basic stitches, we will make and decorate a pair of slippers. Students will also learn various techniques for crocheting neatly, crochet terminology and how to read crochet patterns.

Crocheting is easy and fun. There are countless ways to combine stitches and make various shapes. Once you learn the basics, there are no limits.

The inspiration for this slipper was a monarch butterfly caterpillar. I wanted to put some milkweed flowers in the picture, but when I went to pick some off my milkweed bush I found they were all gone. It’s funny because I have been admiring my milkweed flowers for weeks now. There are some buds on the plant. When they bloom I’ll take another picture. Maybe I’ll even get the caterpillar!

Materials: Students should bring a crochet needle size G or H and yarn. We can talk about what kind of yarn during the first class. I’ll have some yarn they can practice on for the first few classes, but they will need to get their own yarn for the slippers.
