This (12) Hour Beginner Class is perfect for beginners with no experience or someone who has dabbled in making knives. Students leave this class with a great foundation and confidence to begin making knives on their own. You will learn basic forging skills, how to grind, basic knife design, how to sharpen and apply a wooden scale handle. You will also gain an understanding of and be able to  perform the heat treatment process.

No Supplies are needed.

Jerry has been blacksmithing either part-time or full-time over the past (19) years, learning from some of the best Blacksmiths in the U.S!  He has participated in many Arts & Crafts fairs and art exhibitions while completing private commissions over the years.  Jerry operates the nonprofit, Forging A Difference, which uses Blacksmithing and Knifemaking to serve the Active Duty, Veteran, Law Enforcement, and First Responder communities.  The Blacksmith Experience and Jerry have hosted many groups such as the Boy Scouts, church groups, various businesses, Big Brother Big Sister, The exceptional people foundation and others.

This class will be held at our ROBERTSDALE location.  The address is 23013 SOUTH Grissom Drive, Robertsdale, AL 36567.  If you don’t use the word SOUTH in the directions, you will end up somewhere else!  Please call if you get lost.    

 

As for dress, natural / cotton clothing is best.  Please no Synthetic fibers!  Also, please wear closed shoes (please no sandals!).  Long pants are required. Short or long sleeve shirts are both fine.  

 

Coldwater is provided!  

Please let me know if you have any issues with your picture being taken during the class.  I use class photos to post on Facebook.  If you do not want your picture taken, please let me know.  I completely understand there are reasons someone does not want their photo taken and posted on Facebook and I want to absolutely honor those requests.

I will have a Liability and Photo waiver for you to review and sign at the beginning of class.  A copy can be found under the FAQ section of the website at www.theblacksmithexperience.com

I do provide all of the safety gear you will need, but feel free to bring your own.  In the current environment, you may be more comfortable bringing your own.  Welding gloves or leather gloves are great for hand protection.  Safety glasses can be purchased at places like Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart, etc.

A $25 fee will be charged for all class refunds due to a withdrawal. Refunds will be given up to seven (7) days prior to class start date. Thereafter, no refunds will be given, unless the ESAC cancels the class.

 

A $75 fee will be charged for all workshop refunds due to a withdrawal. Refunds will be given up to one (1) month prior to the workshop start date. Thereafter, no refunds will be given, unless the ESAC cancels the workshop.
