Every Student will receive a CREATIVE CARGO tool box thanks to the generosity of the Alabama State Council on the Arts. See details below.

In this upper-range youth class, we will dive deeply into the intellectual goals and origins of Cubism, the art movement from Paris that changed the art world in the early twentieth century. We will focus on the artistic philosophies and techniques of Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Jean Metzinger, Albert Gleizes, Fernand Léger, and Juan Gris. We will build good sketchbook habits, practice critiquing skills, employ drawing and painting techniques to copy masterworks, and create original artworks in the Cubist style.

Students taking selected courses at ESAC will be recipients of Creative Cargo kits. Sponsored by the Alabama State Council on the Arts, Creative Cargo will give students the ability to “take the studio home”. ESAC and ASCA hope to encourage young students to continuously create and innovate during their free time.  Because of ASCA’s generosity, we are able to outfit the kits with unique art supplies that are not in the typical household junk drawer.  From high quality mediums to technical tools, students will have access to items that will enhance their interest in the visual and ceramic arts.

“Intro to Pottery” Students will be gifted the following:

  • Ball Stylus
  • Wooden Sculpture Knives (set of eight)
  • Sculpting Tools (set of eight)
  • Pottery Sponge
  • Soft Silicon Head Tools (set of eight)
  • Clay Color Shapers (set of eight)
