Throughout history fashion has most often been viewed as an expression of one’s wealth and social station, whereas today we see it as an externalization of one’s personal style and taste. The process of designing, the showing, and marketing of design are all parts of the art of fashion. Many of the most renowned photographers and graphic designers have been essential contributors to the creative process. In recent years important museums have had shows of the art of creations of great designers, thereby giving their imprimatur to the perception of fashion as art.
