PAN PASTEL SUPPLY LIST FOR KATHY SHEPPARD
If you decide to order Pan Pastels before the class begins I would suggest a small set which contains primary colors with black and white. Yes, I said that horrible word black which we “real” artist don’t use. Pan Pastels have a wonderful brochure which shows the tints, shades and extra dark shades which explains how to achieve all the colors by adding white or black. Dick Blick has had the best prices and are cheaper if you order sets rather than individual pans.
I introduced this to my granddaughter by only telling her “It looks like makeup and you apply it with sponges”. Her eyes lit up and she went to town covering the entire sheet of paper with blue. Then with yellow she came across the bottom and made a gorgeous green. I have done a few landscapes and really enjoy putting in backgrounds of birds that I do with colored pencils. I have also used them for backgrounds of my watercolor flowers.
Pastel Mat is an excellent surface to use as well is watercolor paper, bristol paper and rag printing paper. I will have samples of everything for you to try.
WHAT TO BRING FOR FIRST CLASS:
Good reference photos: landscape preferable
Colored pencils or pastel pencils if you have them. I have colored pencils in class to use.
Bring a smile and let’s have fun!
