Recap: Art of the Sea Turtle

September 21, 2019

The ESAC staff would love to give a BIG thanks to everyone that made “Art of the Sea Turtle” a magnificent success this past Saturday!

We could not have created such an informative and fun filled event without the help of our amazing volunteers and vendors.

The event saw approximately 368 visitors, created over 50 volunteer opportunities, raised $450 in proceeds for Share the Beach (Alabama’s Sea Turtle Conservation Program) and collected over 1000 plastic bags to recycle and distribute to Prodisee Pantry.

Throughout the following months, we hope to continue raising money for Share the Beach through our sea turtle necklace sales in the gift shop! Notecards are also in the works, created from the event’s Make-and-Take art projects.

Volunteers: Donna Swearingen, Cheryl Boyce, Margaret Jackson Neely, Betty Bowdoin, Margie Gewirtz, Kathy Sheppard, National Charity League, Inc., Christine Reiser Falls, Charlsie Jones, Nicole St. George, Paige McVay, Michelle Kearney, Anna Jeury, and Steven Dark.

Thank you to Barbara and Sophie Haines for allowing us to screen “Diary of a Sea Turtle” and Ben Raines for “The Underwater Forest”.

Thank you to Susan West with Share the Beach, Mark Wetzel from Five Rivers Delta Resource Center, Simone Lipscomb, Linda-Bell Schorer, Nancy Raia, Alligator Alley, the Baldwin County Master Gardeners, and the countless volunteers that showed up to spread the word about conservation and environmentalism.

Thank you to Frios Gourmet Pops – Fairhope for the sweet treats!

Thank you to over thirty artists from MS, FL, GA, and AL that participated in our Art of the Sea Turtle Exhibit.

And a HUGE thank you to Lucy Gafford and the Mobile Arts Council! Your grant helped to make our vision a reality. With your financial support, we will continue to raise money for ACA through notecard and necklace sales.

Keep up the great work and Just Keep Swimming!
